As a YouTube and Vimeo classical crossover music phenomenon, world famous flutist Michele McGovern has stepped outside of the box. Her videos have opened up the world of classical music to a whole new audience. Her debut video titled “Moonlight Sonata” is a tribute to her mentor, teacher, and colleague, Melody Lord, who died after a battle with cancer. Ms. McGovern and Ms. Lord worked together for over 12 years. The collaboration included both performances arrangements for pieces, such as Carmen and Moonlight Sonata.
World famous flutist Michele McGovern is from the Chicago area. She received her Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Music Performance on a full scholarship to the Chicago Music College of Roosevelt University. It was Ms. Lord that encouraged her to pursue her career in music by entering competitions as a stepping stone. Michele took her advice and won several first place awards in various competitions. She was also a two time recipient of the Musicians Club of Women’s Farwell Award for musical excellence. Her career has afforded her the opportunity to work with a number of extraordinary musicians in addition to Ms. Lord, including flutist Mary Stolper and violinist Rachel Barton Pine.
She studied under some of the best flutists of our time, such as Mary Stolper and Alexander Murray. The world famous flutist Michele McGovern and Melody Lord performed all 6 of their arrangements together at New York City's Carnegie Hall in the Weil recital hall. Michele continues to earn “best flutist” status both as a classical musician and a YouTube sensation.
Ms. McGovern’s career prior to her YouTube ventures included many solo performances with exceptional orchestras and symphonies, including Mozart's D Major Concerto, Mozart's Andante, Vivaldi's Il Gardellino Concerto, Vivaldi's La Notte Concerto, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 for two flutes and violin. She recorded with the Saint Petersburg Camerata in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2001 after an invitation to be the flute soloist. For 15 years, Michele was the Principle Flutist the Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra.
